Ní Riada welcomes IMRO Report on Irish Music Industry

The Ireland South MEP for Sinn Féin has welcomed a report by Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) that found that the music industry contributes €703 million annually to Ireland’s economy.

“I welcome the findings of the IMRO report that has given validation to how much the music industry contributes to the our economy. I think it is further proof that our home-grown talents need to be nurtured and given opportunity flourish.

“As an MEP on the committee for Culture, I have consistently raised the dangers facing our music industry today. Artists face the daily reality that is they wish to raise their profile they often have to submit their work to video sharing platforms and risk losing out on fair compensation for their creation.

Ms Ní Riada concluded by saying that she supported the IMRO suggestions that a National Music Strategy to encourage further growth in the sector be set up.

“I absolutely agree with IMRO that our music industry is under threat and I would like to back their calls for a National Music Strategy to encourage further growth in the sector.”
